2. Projection Setup & Test

3. Installation & Mapping

1. 3D Prototyping & Fabrication

Prototyping:

  1. Created a scale 3D model of the Star Spangled Banner Flag Sculpture at the Smithsonian Museum of American History

  2. 3D printed and assembled the model for projection mapping and content testing

Fabrication:

  1. The clip consignment got delayed. So we ended up designing and laser-cut acrylic clips for attaching film surfaces to the 930 pixels on the Flag Sculpture for projection installation.

2. Projection Setup & Test

  1. Prepared Touchdesigner file with KantanMapper operators for individually mapping the 930 pixels of the flag.

  2. Designed and built a User Interface for operation during the installation.

  3. Studied and altered the operators to reduce the GPU load by 50% for a faster framerate.

  4. Designed interactive visuals with webcam to showcase the capabilities of such an installation to the Smithsonian Admin

3. Installation & Mapping

  1. Installed projection surfaces on the 930 pixels of the flag sculpture.

  2. Fine-mapped each pixel individually with pre-prepared Touchdesigner template

  3. Ran content and interactivity for the Smithsonian Administration to evaluate.
