Brainstorming:

Several brainstorming sessions with the D-Day Memorial administration and team to understand their take on the event and source materials and ideas from them.


Storyboarding:

  1. Ideating and drafting storyboard ideas for a 15 minute immersive experience. Narrowing down visuals, stories, and sounds.

  2. Parsing through tons of media to shortlist the fitting content.

  3. Preparing first draft of the experience, including sound and motion graphics in collaboration with professionals in the area.

4. Projection Testing

  1. While the model was being printed and assembled, we tested the projection mapping on Disguise  D3 Suite with the help of the light-weight 3D model, to analyse surface coverage.

  2. Once the model is ready, it will be projected on for projection studies.

3. Assembly & Coating

  1. The blocks were then assembled as prepared, and fixed together with superglue.

  2. The whole model was then sanded with sandbars for a smoothing out joints and preparing the surface for enamel absorption.

  3. The whole model was then first coated with Enamel and further with White Spray Paint, to ready the surface for optimum projection.

2. 3D Modelling & Printing

3D Modelling:

  1. The 10M model was used as reference to construct a light-weight 80,000 vertices model of the whole site, on Blender.

  2. The model was then prepared into 24 blocks, ready for assembly, tailored for the most efficient, high-quality, and light-weight printing.

Printing:

These sliced blocks were then sliced on Creality Slicer for fastest fine printing with least material consumption, and printed on an Ender 5S.

1. Photogrammetry

Photography:

David Franusich operated the drone and took several elipses around the site to capture 600+ images of the site from different heights and angles. 

RealityCapture:

These images were then brought into RealityCapture to compile into a 3D model which was then cleaned and exported as a 10-Million vertices heavy, textured model.

Prototyping the architecture of the D-Day memorial for projection tests. Ideating an immersive experience for their 80th anniversary.
